A local basketball rivalry that hasn’t had a regularly-scheduled game in more than two decades will resume next season when Maryland plays Georgetown in the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games between the Big Ten and Big East.
Both conferences confirmed Wednesday what had been rumored since the new series was first announced last year. The first meeting between the Terps and Hoyas since 1993 will take place at the Xfinity Center on Nov. 17.
Though the teams met twice in the past 22 years, both came in tournaments.
Maryland beat Georgetown in the 2001 NCAA tournament en route to its first Final Four, with the Hoyas crushing the Terps in the consolation game of the Old Spice Classic in 2008.
