A year after Maryland needed nearly every one of Diamond Stone’s program freshman-record 39 points and 12 rebounds – including a school-record 32 points for a half – in a come-from-behind home win over Penn State in its Big Ten opener, this year’s freshman class took a more collective approach Tuesday night.
In an impressive 84-59 win for the Terps over Illinois to open the Big Ten season, freshmen Anthony Cowan Jr., Justin Jackson and Kevin Huerter contributed 26 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, five steals, three block shots, and absolutely no blinks in their first league game.
