A year after his most talented Maryland team finished short of expectations, coach Mark Turgeon is now trying to get one of his youngest teams in his 19-year head coaching career ready for the upcoming season.
At practice Wednesday in the auxilary gym of the Xfinity Center, Turgeon spent more than two hours – much of it working on defensive drills – teaching and preaching to his players about the importance of getting out on ball screens, hitting the boards with more urgency and running hard from one end of the court to the other.
