Friday was the deadline for teams to sign players selected in last month's Major League Baseball draft. For Archbishop Spalding graduate Tyler Blohm, that meant choosing between signing with the Baltimore Orioles or honoring his commitment to pitch at the University of Maryland.
Blohm, a 6-foot-3, 185 pound left-handed pitcher, did not sign with the Orioles on Friday, and will be headed to College Park in the fall.
Dean Albany, the Orioles Mid-Atlantic regional scout, confirmed to The Capital on Friday night that Blohm opted not to sign with the Orioles.
"Maryland is getting a great player,'' Albany said of Blohm.
