Virginia Tech running back Trey Edmunds is expected to transfer to Maryland as a graduate student and will be eligible to play next season.
Edmunds’s father, former Terrapins tight end Ferrell Edmunds, confirmed his son’s intention to transfer on Thursday. Edmunds graduated from Virginia Tech last month with a degree in multimedia journalism and will have a final year of eligibility remaining once he enrolls at Maryland.
“He just wanted an opportunity to play at Maryland … he wanted a chance to play and do well,” said Ferrell Edmunds, who played at Maryland from 1983 to 1987 and was a third-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 1988 NFL draft.
