Immanuel Quickley (John Carroll), Kevin Huerter (Maryland) and the United States men’s basketball team is a win away from the medal round at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Cairo.
The unbeaten Americans routed winless Mali, 117-69, in round-of-16 play Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals. Quickley, who started, had three points, an assist and a rebound in 17 minutes, missing two of his three field-goal attempts.
In 14 minutes off the bench, Huerter had four points, two assists and three rebounds on 2-for-5 shooting.
Elsewhere, Maryland redshirt freshman Joshua Tomaic had two points, four rebounds and four fouls in nine minutes of Spain's 70-50 win over Iran.
