MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The unraveling of Maryland on Saturday began in earnest on the first defensive drive of the game, when senior safety A.J. Hendy lowered his shoulder and delivered a late hit on West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard. Officials gathered to review whether Hendy had contacted Howard with his helmet, which would’ve warranted an ejection for targeting.
Fortunately for Maryland, Hendy avoided being thrown out of the game. But it was still an ill-advised decision from a safety who has played in 33 career games, but self-inflicted errors provided the primary theme for Maryland in a 45-6 loss.
