BALTIMORE — Maryland senior forward Jake Layman didn’t smile until the final moments of his news conference following Saturday’s 82-61 win over Princeton. It only came after he was asked not about his own performance — a season-high 19 points and eight rebounds – but that of junior guard Jaylen Brantley, who finished with 14 second-half points in his best showing of the season.
That scoring barrage reminded Layman of the kind of talent Brantley possesses on the offensive end, the kind of scoring ability he witnessed while the Massachusetts natives were playing for the Boston Amateur Basketball Club, a top-flight AAU program.
