Maryland Quarterback Perry Hills took a helmet-to-helmet shot as he delivered a third-down pass during the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Richmond, his back planted into the wet turf and his view obstructed as freshman wide receiver D.J. Moore raced to the end-zone for a 43-yard touchdown.
Maryland Coach Randy Edsall has long trumpeted the toughness of Hills, who had to summon all of it on a soggy day in College Park. After enduring a 55-minute lightning delay, bouts of inconsistency and dueling with an opposing offense that was every bit as high-octane as advertised, Hills and Maryland were roughed up and simply couldn’t make enough plays in a 48-27 loss.
