The No. 5 seed Maryland men's basketball team raced past No. 13 seed Hawaii in the second half and held on late, 73-60, for an NCAA tournament win Sunday that secured its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2003.
The Terps (27-8), who were winlesss in their five previous second-round games, will face No. 1 overall seed Kansas in Louisville, Ky., on Thursday.
Hawaii (28-5), which upset No. 4 seed California in the first round Friday, led 39-36 early in the second half before a 15-2 run gave Maryland the separation it needed.
Sophomore guard Melo Trimble led the Terps with 24 points on 5-for-14 shooting.
