No. 5 Maryland field hockey (19-4) lost to No. 16 Princeton 3-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Princeton (11-6) scored 21 minutes into the game off a broken penalty corner. The Terrapins blocked sophomore Ryan McCarthy's shot, but Princeton junior Cat Caro corralled the loose ball and slotted it past Maryland freshman goalie Sarah Holliday.
Freshman Sophia Tornetta scored her first of two goals on the day 10 minutes later to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Tornetta made a back post run and tipped in a shot from senior Kate Ferrara.
