The tone of Tuesday’s game at Xfinity Center between No. 2 Maryland and Division II Bowie State was set on the opening tip when freshman center Diamond Stone outjumped his Bulldog counterpart -- and smacked the ball out of bounds.
The Terps were clearly superior to the first non-conference opponent they faced in February in five years, and clearly not focused for most of the first half after playing four Big Ten Conference games -- two on the road and two at home against ranked opponents -- in the course of 11 days.
With Terps coach Mark Turgeon substituting freely while trying to get rest for a number of his starters, Maryland had a chance to exhale -- and not exert itself too much -- in a sloppy and not surprisingly uninspired 93-62 victory before an announced sellout of 17,950.
