Out of all the heroes that No. 2-seed Maryland field hockey could have relied upon entering the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals against No. 7-seed Iowa, Paige Kieft certainly would not have been the first name out of many fans’ mouths.

But as the Terps wrapped up 80 minutes of goalless play, the belief of Maryland and head coach Missy Meharg in its second-string goalkeeper didn’t waver for a second.

“Paige has a wonderful type of confidence that’s on the verge of such unique arrogance,” said Meharg. “This is the third time on this field that Paige has advanced us in postseason play .
