Two months ago, the Maryland men’s basketball team began the Big Ten season as prohibitive favorites despite coach Mark Turgeon’s warnings of a tough road schedule ahead.
The 10th-ranked Terps saw their dream of a regular season title end at Mackey Arena Saturday. Despite overcoming nearly all of an early 16-point deficit and all of a 10-point deficit with less than four minutes to No. 20 Purdue, Maryland lost, 83-79.
The defeat was the third in four games for the struggling Terps, who after hosting Illinois on Senior Night Thursday have to return to this state and finish the regular season next Sunday after first-place Indiana at Assembly Hall.
