Maryland football defensive lineman Greg Rose learned the program was awarding him a scholarship thanks to a surprise video call from Prince George’s County native and NBA star Kevin Durant.
What initially appeared to be a call meant to wish the Terps luck quickly turned into Durant announcing he had a “special message for Greg Rose.”
Rose joined the team ahead of the abbreviated 2020 season as he transferred as a walk-on from Lackawanna College. In his first season as a Terp, the DeMatha Catholic product appeared in two games.
Earlier this season, Maryland football awarded a scholarship to running back Challen Faamatau at a Ravens preseason game.
