NCAA President Mark Emmert announced Thursday that no Division I fall sports championships will take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
More FCS football conferences cancelled their fall seasons Thursday, which brought the number of schools choosing not to compete over 50 percent and forced the NCAA to cancel championships in all sports.
Though the FBS is not be affected, the FCS, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s volleyball and men’s water polo will not participate in fall championships.
Emmert also expressed support for potentially using bubbles for championships in 2021, saying that it is “perfectly viable in many sports.
