Maryland track and field sophomore Caleb Dean took third place in his 400m hurdle quarterfinal heat at the 2021 Olympic Trials, automatically qualifying for the semifinal.
Dean finished with a time of 50.03 from the fourth lane despite a stacked heat with Sean Burrell (LSU) and Adidas pro Quincy Hall tripping up on their hurdles and falling back.
The Hyattsville, Maryland native had a strong showing this season for the Terps. Dean qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships after finishing in fourth place in the 400m at the NCAA East Regionals.
Dean will next compete in the semifinals Friday evening, where the top three finishers and the two next-best times from the two heats will advance to Saturday’s final.
