Maryland softball hosted No. 7 UCLA over the weekend and was swept, its first Big Ten series loss this season.
The Bruins were dominant all weekend, defeating the Terps Friday (9-0), Saturday (6-1) and Sunday (10-1). Friday and Sunday’s wins came early via mercy rule. Maryland now sits 15-18 on the season and 3-7 in conference play, good for 10th in Big Ten standings.
The Terps’ pitching struggled to reign in one of the country’s top offenses. Their losing pitchers were sophomore Julia Shearer Friday, junior Bri Godfrey Saturday and junior Keira Bucher Sunday. Bucher gave up three runs in relief Saturday and Godfrey allowed six in relief Sunday.
