MM 3.29: Maryland women’s soccer falls to Minnesota, 1-0

Maryland women’s soccer fought hard against Minnesota, but ultimately fell short, 1-0 due to an early goal.

The only goal of the game came just two minutes in by Minnesota’s forward McKenna Buisman, assisted by midfielder Katie Duong. Other than Buisman’s goal, starting Terps goalie Krista Varrichione had five saves in the first half before goalkeeper Kennedy Tolson took over in the second half.

One of the main themes of the season, which played out again in today’s loss, is Maryland’s few shots and shots on goal compared to their opponents, 16-7 and 9-4 respectively.

Despite being 0-8-2 and last in the Big Ten standings, head coach Ray Leone says his team is playing strong and is facing the mental roadblock of their goal drought, which has spanned the last five games.
