MM 3.20: Maryland men’s basketball’s Derik Queen earns AP All-America Honorable Mention honors

Maryland men’s basketball center Derik Queen was named an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention, it was announced Wednesday.

The freshman added to his already loaded season of honors, which includes Big Ten Freshman of the Year and All-Big Ten first team. Queen is the first Terp to earn All-America honors since Jalen Smith received a third team nod in 2020. He’s also the first Maryland freshman since Joe Smith in 1994 to get All-America honors.

Queen currently leads all freshmen in the nation with 14 double-doubles, and enters the NCAA Tournament with the second-highest points per game average all-time among Maryland freshmen, with 16.
