Maryland women’s lacrosse’s season opener against Johns Hopkins has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Blue Jays’ program.
“The institutions will work with the Conference to identify rescheduling options,” Maryland’s athletic department said in a statement Monday.
The matchup would have been the Terps’ first game since March 7 of last year and their first conference game since their 2019 National Championship season. The coronavirus pandemic will postpone their return to conference play until at least Feb. 21, when they are scheduled to face off against Penn State.
Postponements due to positive tests will certainly play a role during this year’s spring sports season.
