Two games into the season, the Maryland women’s soccer team is getting used to final-minute heroics.
In the season opener, a desperation goal from forward Mikayla Dayes in the 89th minute sent the game to overtime, securing an eventual tie out of what looked like certain defeat.
Thursday night, the heroics came from the opposition.
With one second left on the clock — it’s disputed if there even was any time left — Purdue defender Chloe Woodbeck scored off a corner kick to tie the game 2-2. One second was all it took. An overtime goal from the Boilermakers’ freshman forward Nicole Kevdzija in the 101st minute ended the match, and the Terps fell to 0-1-1 on the season.
