MM 1.8: Maryland athletics to share $20.5 million of revenue with student-athletes

Starting in the 2025-26 season, Maryland athletics will pay its student athletes directly. The department will share the maximum-allowable amount of $20.5 million of its revenue with student-athletes, athletics director Damon Evans announced Tuesday.

The “vast majority” of the amount will be spent on the three “revenue-producing sports” — football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball — according to the release.

Maryland will also pay $1.5 million annually for the next 10 years to former student-athletes, as a result of preliminary approval on the settlement in the House v. NCAA case, an antitrust lawsuit set to pay $2.
