MM 1.4: Zack Steffen becomes first Terp to start in Premier League

Former Maryland men’s soccer goalkeeper Zack Steffen started for Manchester City Sunday against Chelsea, becoming the first Terrapin to start in an English Premier League game.

He is also just the second Maryland alum to appear in the top level of the English football league system after Maurice Edu made one substitute appearance for Stoke City during the 2012-13 season.

Steffen made a promising debut, pitching a clean sheet for most of the match before allowing an injury time goal in the 92nd minute. He also had a save, three throw-outs and a foul as Manchester City was victorious, 3-1.
