In his second season with Maryland football, defensive coordinator Jon Hoke was been named as a nominee for the 2020 Broyles Award Tuesday.
Awarded to the top assistant coach in NCAA Division I football, the Broyles Award has been recognizing staff members since 1996, in honor of then-University of Arkansas and current hall of fame head coach Frank Boyles.
Hoke is one of 56 nominees in this year’s class, a group whittled down from over 1,200 other assistant coaches from 127 programs.
Maryland’s defense has turned itself around under Hoke this season, allowing just 214 passing yards per game, which ranks them fifth in the Big Ten.
