Former Maryland football running back Roman Hemby, a three-year starter for the Terps, is transferring to Big Ten rival Indiana. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel Monday.
Hemby started all 38 games across the Terps’ previous three seasons, carrying the ball 464 times for 2,276 yards and 20 touchdowns in that span. His biggest year came in 2022, when he recorded 1,287 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns.
The redshirt junior was widely regarded as a key team leader and role model. He’ll have one remaining year of eligibility.
Hemby will return to College Park on Nov.
