Maryland baseball corner infielder Maxwell Costes was named as a 2021 preseason third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine on Tuesday.
Costes, a junior, returns to All-America status this year after being awarded the honor before his sophomore season. After hitting 15 home runs in his freshman campaign, he was named as a Freshman All-American, All-Big Ten first team, and the Big Ten’s freshman of the year.
The Baltimore native was hampered by COVID-19’s hard-stop on collegiate athletics last spring after he slashed .432/.620/.750 with 19 hits and four home runs over 15 games. He also cut down on his strikeout rate, dropping from 25% to 16% out of the gate.
