Maryland football’s special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach George Helow accepted a job at Michigan on Monday, according to multiple reports.
Helow, who left a successful four-year stint with Colorado State to join the Terps just a year ago, joins the Wolverines as a safeties coach under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
After finishing his playing career at Ole Miss, Helow joined Alabama’s program as a weight room intern before interning under then defensive coordinator Kirby Smart during the team’s 2012 BCS National Championship run. Alabama’s defense surrendered less than 11 points per game that season.
Helow made $325k in his position at Maryland last season, per the USA Today College Football Assistant Coaching Database.
