Maryland women’s basketball’s Ashley Owusu was named the Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The sophomore guard has been instrumental in the Terps’ great play of late, which has included wins over No. 19 Indiana and then-No. 23 Michigan State in close contests.
Brenda Frese’s squad then defeated Purdue in College Park, 83-46, in a three-win week that allowed Owusu to put her ability on full display. The Virginia native averaged 19.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 6.0 rebounds over the stretch to help put the Terps soundly atop the Big Ten Conference standings.
Owusu’s hot start has proven her first year with the Terps was no fluke.
