Maryland offensive lineman Austin Fontaine has decided to return to the team after previously opting out in August due to COVID-19 concerns, a team spokesperson confirmed to Testudo Times Wednesday.
Fontaine played in all 12 games for the Terps last year, starting at right guard in six. The redshirt sophomore stands at 6-foot-3, 300 pounds and is considered to be one of the better blockers on the offensive line.
He likely won’t be placed back into the starting unit after missing most of fall camp, and he isn’t currently listed on the depth chart, his return will provide much needed depth to a position group that could use it.
