Back in 2014, Brandon Lowe was a star redshirt freshman on the Maryland baseball team, leading the squad in hits, walks, runs and doubles. On Wednesday, only six years later, Lowe was nominated for the 2020 Hank Aaron Award, given to the best hitter in each of MLB’s two leagues.
Lowe has been a star for the Tampa Bay Rays since his rookie season in 2018. He hit for 14 home runs and 37 runs batted in in this year’s shortened regular season while leading his team to a division title and a postseason berth. In just his second year, he was named an All-Star.
