Maryland sophomore point guard Melo Trimble made the late-season list of 20 remaining candidates for the John R. Wooden Award, given annually to the national Player of the Year, according to a release from the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Trimble, who is averaging 14.4 points and 5.3 assists per game for the No. 2 Terps, is one of four sophomores on the list. Duke guard Grayson Allen, Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis and BYU center Jakob Poeltl are the others.
LSU forward Ben Simmons, widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA draft, was the only freshman on the list.
