Maryland's Wells to join Wizards for summer league

After not being picked in the NBA Draft Thursday night, former Maryland guard Dez Wells will join the Washington Wizards during for summer league play in Las Vegas in July.

According to Lance Young, Wells’ agent, Wizards vice-president Tommy Shepherd called him three times on Thursday to express their interest in the 6-5 shooting guard.

The Wizards moved up to 15th in the first round through a trade with Atlanta and picked Kansas forward Kelly Oubre Jr. With their second-round selection and the 49th overall pick, the Wizards chose Iowa forward Aaron White.

Young said he believes the Wizards have a legitimate interest in Wells, who was a first-team selection by the Big Ten coaches as a senior in College Park.
