Maryland’s Ty Johnson named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

Maryland senior running back Ty Johnson returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of the Terps’ loss at Michigan Saturday. The Big Ten named him as its Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Perfect blocking and blazing speed allowed Johnson to breeze into the end zone untouched on his return, which gave the Terps a 7-3 lead. With Darnell Savage picking off Shea Patterson on Michigan’s next possession, Johnson’s touchdown looked like a momentum-changer. Instead, this was the Terps’ only score until the fourth quarter.
