Mike Shawaryn was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, and the former Maryland ace had an award-winning first full season in the professional ranks.
“The Unicorn” was named Boston’s Pitching Prospect of the Year by MLBPipeline.com on Thursday. Shawaryn split the season between Low-A Greenville and High-A Winston-Salem, going 8-7 with a 3.81 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 134.2 innings.
