When Buzz Williams was introduced April 2 as the next Maryland men’s basketball coach, the Terrapins’ roster was in the process of being stripped bare via the transfer portal, expiring eligibility and its most captivating player all but certain to declare for the NBA draft.
In the ensuing weeks, Williams fast-tracked a reload, adding eight commitments as of the closing of the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday. Unlike at his previous two stops, most recently Texas A&M, the mandate in this case is to extend the upward trajectory from last season rather than restore the program over time.
