Maryland guard Dion Wiley has suffered a torn right meniscus and will have surgery in Baltimore later this week, the school announced on Saturday.
Maryland has not determined a timetable for Wiley’s return. The sophomore suffered the injury during practice Thursday, although the extent of the damage wasn’t immediately clear until he was further examined on Saturday. Wiley had heavy swelling in the knee on Friday, when he underwent an MRI exam and sat out Maryland’s exhibition win over Southern New Hampshire.

Though third-ranked Maryland has plenty of back-court depth to compensate for Wiley’s absence, his injury is a considerable blow with the season opener against Mount St.
