Maryland basketball alum Diamond Stone made his D-League debut on Saturday, and scored 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting for the Santa Cruz Warriors. He added nine rebounds.
Stone’s appeared in three games with the Clippers, grabbing three rebounds and scoring six points in 14 career minutes thus far. Stone was always going to be a project for whichever NBA team drafted him, and with DeAndre Jordan and Marreese Speights in front of him on the depth chart, the Clippers have time for him to develop.
It’s unclear how long his D-League stay will be. Players often get send down for just a game or two at a time, so he could be back in Los Angeles real soon.
