After impressing Maryland’s staff with a crisp performance in a reserve role lats week, redshirt freshman Derwin Gray has been promoted as the starting right tackle ahead of next Saturday’s game against Wisconsin.
Gray is listed ahead of redshirt freshman Damian Prince, the former five-star recruit who is dealing with a lingering ankle injury suffered two weeks ago against Penn State. Prince missed Saturday’s 31-15 loss against Iowa, although Maryland interim coach Mike Locksley expressed confidence that he would be able to return to practice this week during a conference call with reporters on Sunday.
The absence of Prince against Iowa forced Locksley to move senior Ryan Doyle over to right tackle and bump sophomore Maurice Shelton up the two-deep to start at left guard.
