There were games last season when Maryland center Damonte Dodd might have fancied himself as more of a scorer, such as the time he tallied nine points in a half against Minnesota or when he took after his idol, Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, with a couple of drive-and-dunks at Oklahoma State.
Typically, whenever Dodd started thinking about scoring, he became distracted with the role coach Mark Turgeon wanted the 6-foot-11 then-sophomore to play. His defensive effort would go down, his fouls would go up and he often wound up spending more time on the bench than on the court.
