Maryland's Bruno Fernando named a finalist for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

Maryland sophomore Bruno Fernando was named Friday as one of five finalists for the Kareem Abdul Jabbar Award, given to the nation’s best center.

Fernando ranks first in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (63.3), second in rebounding (10.5) and is tied for second in block shots (2.0).

The 6-foot-10 center is second on the Terps in scoring (14.1) despite taking just over eight shots a game. He is also 13th in the Big Ten in free throw percentage at 77 percent.

The remaining four finalists are Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ, Georgetown’s Jessie Govan, Western Kentucky’s Charles Bassey, and William & Mary’s Nathan Knight.
