Five-star junior prospect Shakira Austin orally committed to the Maryland women's basketball team Sunday, giving the Terps their highest-rated recruit in years.
A 6-foot-5 post from Stafford, Va., Austin is rated the No. 5 overall player, and No. 2 at her position, in the Class of 2018 in ESPN's HoopGurlz rankings. She also considered Connecticut, UCLA and Notre Dame, according to Swish Appeal.
"My family, coaches, and friends have supported me during my ups and downs and I want to say I appreciate everything you all have done for me," she wrote on Twitter.
