Maryland women earn No. 2 seed in NCAA tournament, chance for two home games

The Maryland women's basketball team earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament Monday night, setting up a potential Elite Eight matchup with second-ranked Notre Dame.

The Terps (30-3) will open play in the Lexington, Ky., region with a home game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 15 seed Iona, making its first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. With a win, Maryland would advance to face No. 7 seed Washington or No. 10 seed Pennsylvania at Xfinity Center on Monday.

The top-seeded Fighting Irish (31-1), who have lost to three-time defending national champion Connecticut in the tournament final each of the past two seasons, are maybe the country's best team outside Storrs, Conn.
