Maryland track and field will have another competitor in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as Thea LaFond will represent Dominica in the Women’s Triple Jump.
LaFond qualified for the event after posting a 14.33-meter performance at the 2020 University of Albany Winter Classic Competition. This will mark the third time LaFond has represented Dominica, including the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
At Maryland, LaFond (‘15) earned several All-American honors and even stands atop the Terrapin record books with a school record of 44-02.75 in the women’s triple jump.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 23, while LaFond will first compete in the Women’s Triple Jump qualifying rounds on July 30 at 10 a.
