EUGENE, Ore. — The Maryland football team’s improbable bid to upset top-ranked Oregon crumbled amid myriad errors in all three phases Saturday night, dealing another blow to the Terrapins’ diminishing aspirations of extending their streak of bowl appearances.
The 39-18 loss at Autzen Stadium included quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. committing three turnovers in a second straight clunker for the redshirt junior, who entered the weekend second among Big Ten quarterbacks in passing. Edwards’s first interception came when he overthrew wide receiver Octavian Smith Jr. in the fourth quarter, leading to a field goal for the Ducks that grew their lead to 14 with 5:47 to play.
