Maryland plans to revive its running attack against South Florida

Maryland rushed for 341 yards in its season-opening win against Richmond two weeks ago, its most on the ground in 13 seasons. It became a quick afterthought as Bowling Green loaded the box time and time again last week, pummeling Maryland’s offensive line and holding starting running back Brandon Ross to just 10 yards on eight attempts.

Maryland finished with 156 total rushing yards in the 21-point loss, although that number was inflated by the scrambling ability of quarterback Perry Hills, who led the Terrapins with 94 rushing yards. Without the ability to stretch the field and consistently challenge Bowling Green’s secondary with a vertical passing game, Maryland dealt with an overcrowded line of scrimmage all afternoon.
