Maryland junior pitcher Mike Shawaryn has been named a preseason first team all-American by D1Baseball.com, the website announced Monday.
Shawaryn, a right-hander from Carney ‘s Point, N.J., was one of six pitchers chosen for the first team. He had the best ERA (1.71) and the most innings pitched (116.0) of that group in 2015.
Shawaryn has the most career wins in Maryland history with 24. He had a school-record 13 wins in 2015. Shawaryn also set the season mark with 138 strikeouts. Shawaryn had 85 strikeouts in Big Ten play to set a new season conference mark.
