Maryland Coach DJ Durkin has strong recruiting ties to Florida, and Friday morning that helped him net his most prominent recruit in his short time in College Park.
Cam Spence, a four-star defensive tackle from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., made his pledge to Durkin and becomes Maryland’s third recruit in the Class of 2017.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Spence, who had trimmed his list to 15 schools a week ago, is rated the 12th-overall defensive tackle in the class of 2017 by 247sports. He was also considering Ohio State, Penn State and Alabama, among others, but now gives Durkin the kind of blue-chip defensive player he can build his second class around.
