Nima Omidvar, the director of operations for the Maryland men’s basketball team the past four years, is leaving College Park for his first full-time coaching job as an assistant at South Alabama.
Omidvar confirmed a report Sunday on the InsideMDSports.com website but declined to comment “until it’s official.” Omidvar has yet to sign his contract with the Jaguars.
A Maryland graduate, Omidvar, 32, will be able to use the energy he gave to organizing on-campus recruiting visits in a role that will allow him to recruit off-campus.
Omidvar was also in charge of the team’s social media presence and coordinated the schedule with Maryland coach Mark Turgeon.
