Maryland football long snapper Matt Oliveira announced Monday that he will be transferring to South Carolina for his final year of eligibility.
Oliveira started for the Terps in every game over the past two years, with two tackles last season and four total over his career in College Park.
Oliveira’s departure is another sting for the Terps’ special teams unit. Starting punter Wade Lees announced in May that he would be transferring to UCLA, and the kicking and punting units didn't look great in the spring game or spring practice.
Maryland will lean on kicker Joseph Petrino, who went 12-for-14 on field goals last season, but the team currently doesn’t have an experienced punter or long snapper on the roster.
